How to easily reach Mount Vesuvius without spending too much?

Hey beautiful people, today we are gonna talk about the Mount Vesuvius, the most dangerous active volcano in the world.I know that lots of tourists are quite confused about how to easily reach Mount Vesuvius without spending too much money or without walking too much. But do not worry guys, I am here to help you out! Who’s better than a local?

First of all, you should know that Mount Vesuvius is 1,281 metres high but, in order to get on the top of it, you won’t need to hike from the slope.

There are 2 ways how to easily reach Mount Vesuvius.

The first one is buying a ticket close to Ercolano train station that is served by the Circumvesuviana Line.
Please do not get confused about the train line.
If you live in Portici like me, you need to go to the station called “PORTICI BELLAVISTA” or “PORTICI VIA LIBERTÀ”.
I am used to seeing lots of tourist walking around totally lost and far away from where they should be just because they confuse “Circumvesuviana line” with “Ferrovie dello Stato”.
Anyway….
When you are out of the train station, on your left, you will find a little shop called Vesuvio’s Express. In there you can buy a ticket for a shuttle that will bring you at 1000 meters altitude in 20 minutes.
From there on you have to hike. It’s not too much, more or less 800 meters, so do not worry, but I suggest you to wear comfortable shoes and please, do not drink alcohol before you hike the Vulcano, you could have a hard time.
The first shuttle is at 9.40 am and the last is at 4 pm.From when you will be at 1000 meters altitude you will have 1 hour and 40 minutes to visit the volcano.
The ticket price will cost you 20 euro. 10 euro for the shuttle and 10 euro for the hiking entrance. If you like, you can pay even by card. Easy.

The second option if you want to easily reach Mount Vesuvius is to go by car.

Honestly, I prefer this option because, first of all, it’s cheaper and second is because I can spend as much time as I like on the volcano.I can understand that lots of international tourists are coming without a car, so in that case, it’s ok the first option but, if you have a car you should definitely choose this second option. It’s not hard to reach the top of Vesuvius going by car but sometimes, if you aren’t confident about the place it can look like so.

People sometimes get confused because they search on the GPS “Vesuvio” and obviously as it’s a quite huge place the GPS can’t localise where you should go.But, I will give you a secret:Try to write down on Google Maps ” Piazzale di Quota 1000 (Piazzale Ercolano), Parco Nazionale del Vesuvio, SP114, 80056 Ercolano NA” and you will see you won’t have any problem at all.

Obviously when you will be at 1000 meters altitude, if you want to hike you have to pay for the ticket but, in this case, you will spend only 10 euro. When you will reach the Mount Vesuvius, you will find an amazing landscape from where you can see the astonishing golf of Naples, the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida and also Sorrento Cost.

I suggest you go there during the sunny days because of the landscape but, if you do not like hot weather maybe it’s perfect for you to go even when it’s cloudy.

On top of Vesuvius you will find a little coffee area where you can try a sip of Italian wine and why not? Another sip of a typical Neapolitan liqueur made by lemons. The name is Limoncello. Oh, I love it. Try it and let me know, come on!

Ok guys, thanks for reading my little guide about how to reach the Vesuvius – I hope it will help you.
Ah….wait a moment! I have a question for you:
Do you prefer to hike Vesuvius when is cloudy or when is sunny? Let me know why.

Ciao!
