Eating on the Vesuvius

My boyfriend and I went to dinner at “Terrazza Due Golfi” on the occasion of the August holiday together with two friends.
We had been there always and only during the day to have an aperitif which, despite being minimal in the offer of appetizers, surprised us when we ordered almond milk which was far much better than many others tried elsewhere.
During the day you can enjoy a beautiful view overlooking the Gulf of Naples with its islands and the Gulf of Sorrento, while at the back you will have Vesuvius. The location is quite impressive as it is located at a high altitude and just a few minutes drive from the mouth of the volcano.

The restaurant is totally outdoors and to cover it from the sun there are lovely wooden pergola and climbing plants.
Being in the middle of the Vesuvius National Park, it is common to find insects (mostly bees) just like when you have a picnic in the countryside.
On the other hand, on hot summer days, you can enjoy the coolness of the high altitude and the variety of menus offered.

My fiancĂ© had already been there a few years ago for lunch, but he wasn’t particularly pleased with the quality of the meat and the service. So we started out a little biased, also aware of the fact that prices were rather low and, you know when you want to eat quality products, your budget necessarily increases.

As also suggested by our friends, it is always advisable to book a table if you want to go to dinner as it is always full. In fact, if we had not booked, we certainly would not have been able to sit down.

The amazing view from Terrazza Due Golfi

As soon as we arrived, we got to park in the parking lot of the structure which is not paved and is, of course, always as full as the local.
Having booked, we immediately settled down. Keep in mind that it is not a luxury restaurant, and in any case, the environment is very spartan: you will, therefore, find plastic tables and chairs, paper placemats with menus printed on them, plastic plates and glasses, etc. etc.

The selection of the products offered presented on the list is quite varied: there are bruschetta, sandwiches, cut meat, salads, various side dishes and some kind of Neapolitan street food.
Be aware that not always everything is available, in fact when we went we were informed that in that evening they would not have prepared sandwiches.
We, therefore, opted for the fixed menu for € 10 each which includes: 1 bruschetta with tomatoes, 1 bruschetta with beans, a set of grilled meat (sausage, bacon and slice of beef) with grilled vegetables, water, wine and 1 piece of homemade tart. The service was pretty fast and efficient.

As for the bruschetta, don’t expect the classic sliced bread toasted on the grill. Instead, you will be served small crispy Freselline that were not bad anyway.
The meat was excellent, tender and with the classic taste of grilled cooking. My fiancĂ© was pleasantly surprised to the point of saying that he would like to go back there. The roasted vegetables, unfortunately, were a bit disappointing both in quantity and taste. We understand that for 10 € you can’t expect much, but it is equally valid that grilled vegetables are the cheapest part of the menu. For this reason, it would be nice if the quantities were increased in the portions. Do not expect, however, that the dish with the vegetables is abundant because they will arrive just 3-4 slices ahead in a saucer.
If you wish, you can still order chips or any other side dish.

We were told that they often forget to bring the tart, and indeed it was, and so we had to ask for it from the waiter, who promptly brought it to the table.
The apricot tart was good, and it felt like it was homemade.

We spent a pleasant evening, and it was incredibly cold, and we were particularly happy about this, because of the very high temperatures of August down in the city.
However, we would like to recommend Terrazza Due Golfi to anyone wishing to spend a lovely evening without being pretentious.

A lovely dinner with lovely people.
